Το GitHub κλείνει repositories του Popcorn Time μετά από DMCA από την MPAA

Το GitHub έκλεισε δύο repositories που ανήκουν στο streaming BitTorrent client Popcorn Time, μετά από αίτημα DMCA , από την Motion Picture Association of America. Η MPAA ισχυρίζεται πως η συνεχιζόμενη ανάπτυξη του κώδικα του Popcorn Time, επιτρέπει σοβαρή παραβίαση του copyright των μελών της.

We are writing to notify you of, and request your assistance in addressing, the extensive copyright infringement of motion pictures and television programs that is occurring by virtue of the operation and further development of the Popcorn Time repositories (the “Project”) found at:

https://github.com/popcorn-official/popcorn-desktop

https://github.com/popcorn-official/popcorn-api

Our request is specifically aimed at the aforementioned repositories and does not concern any other related repositories.

Οι κοινοποιήσεις DMCA έχουν σαν στόχο την αναγκαστική διακοπή παραβιάσεων πνευματικής ιδιοκτησίας και η χρήση τους σε ένα αποθετήριο κώδικα, θεωρείται από πολλούς πως ξεπερνάει τα όρια χρήσης τους. Οι developers του Popcorn Time σσε δική τους counter-DMCA κοινοποίηση προς το GitHub, αναφέρουν πως ο κώδικας είναι 100% δικός τους και δεν περιέχει προστατευμένο με δικαιώματα περιεχόμενο.
